Meebo

After messing around with Trillian, Chris Brown and I have decided to bail out and investigate Meebo, especially their embedded chat product, Meebo Me. I installed their applet onto this blog, and we've been trying out different things, although it works fine most of the time, it seemed to have some glitches. I'm not sure why they happen, but sometimes you can't see what you're typing, or sometimes, people appear to break the connection even if they haven't.

I also tried looking for some auto-paste software that could be used to "type" in stock lines, especially if it could be used right off of the right-click menus, but to no avail.

For the meantime, more Rutgers digital government documents have been added to the PEAK catalog at DU:

Adding to Hit-Tail

I've added this blog to Hit-Tail,which is designed to leverage keywords in your blog to increase traffic. There's a long-tail tie-in, but it comes down to changing what was your long-tail into your main area of focus, or allowing you to see which subjects and keywords do well. Mostly I'm just doing this to see if anyone is finding this blog at all, even though I mostly only use this as an accountability tool, as well as some formal record of my time and projects here at Penrose Library.

Here is Hit-Tail's graphic explaination of what Hit-Tail can do for you, as well as what you are supposed to do with it:

This Week...

I finished up the legwork for the PEAK Online Government Document Readt -Reference Shelf, all I need to do in finish up the loose ends and broken links.

I started looking at Google Book copies of SuDocs I 19.3, but with scattered results. Although the markings in the pdfs showed that they were from Standford, but the University of Michigan is providing very sketchy access to the through their catalog, Mirlyn. Searching Google was not a whole lot better, as it is a black box, with no real control of the books, per se. Still, here are the SuDocs numbers for various items Penrose owns that are also in Google Books:

I 19.3:1
I 19.3:210
I 19.3:15
I 19.3:77
I 19.3:51
I 19.3:128
I 19.3:82
I 19.3:122
I 19.3:419
I 19.3:491
I 19.3:591
I 19.3:228
I 19.3:220
I 19.3:167
I 19.3:9
I 19.3:330
I 19.3:30
I 19.3:134
I 19.3:302
I 19.9:32

In more exciting news, I have begun using the Rutgers University School of Law Congressional Document Collection to make links from the PEAK catalog to their pdfs. Here's an example of one Chris Brown has done in the past. Next week I am hoping to start getting these into the catalog using Millenium.
